There have been many stories about me in Brazilian leading newspapers in the last few years. The truth is, most of the attention came from facts I hope will never happen again to future generations of scientists of transgender experience.

My acceptance to the Brazilian academy was difficult, incremental, and patchworky. Until I was accepted to YITP, heaven on the respect for diversity, returning to my country was my dream. And I failed miserably at that, in part because of blatant, open, and unacceptable discrimination.

I will never forget the feedback I received after failing to get a job at a leading Brazilian University.

The only thing I think you can do to improve your chances in job talks or classes in Brazil contests is to be a little more neutral....in the sense of "less trans" and more physics! I will not tell you who made this comment for me in the XXX contest, but I was told that it shocked the old members of the committee

To put it bluntly, as I am not aware of the exact course of the decision, I should be quieter... However, as you know me, I will dare to say it: it seemed too radical. Perhaps it could be something softer and even less aggressive to your body, even if unsatisfactory to your mind and spirit.  Anyway, ball forward and be all for your greatest happiness!

There are many more unfortunate events. Friends recalled faculty calling me crazy and mentally unstable for being transgender.

Besides all that, this is a story with a fantastic ending. Not only can I thrive at YITP, but I have also successfully gained the respect of many in the Brazilian Academy.
