Rafael Gomes is a YITP Fellow working on higher-order weak lensing statistics, in particular the bispectrum and the cosmic shear three-point correlation function. He received his B.Sc. (2018) and M.Sc. (2021) from the University of São Paulo, where he worked with Marcos Vinicius Borges Teixeira Lima on multi-probe analyses for the Dark Energy Survey. He then received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania (2021–2026) under Bhuvnesh Jain. At Penn he led the first joint analysis of second- and third-order shear statistics in DES Year 3 data, which roughly doubled the figure of merit in the Ωm–S8 plane relative to two-point functions alone. He also co-developed fast modeling of the shear 3PCF and extended intrinsic alignment modeling (TATT) to third-order statistics, preparing these methods for Stage IV surveys such as Roman.
